New York-based singer-songwriter Édaj is carving out her own lane with Blush Hour, a debut album that blends ethereal pop with sharp, intentional storytelling. With standout tracks like Crush featuring Shannon and Don’t Need You featuring Xanier, the album showcases her ability to craft songs that feel both deeply personal and universally relatable. As she gears up for live performances and explores a new French jazz-inspired direction, we sat down with Édaj to talk about her creative process, the response to Blush Hour, and what’s next for her evolving artistry.
You’ve just released Blush Hour. How has the response been so far?
It’s been amazing. Seeing people connect with the songs, especially Crush and Don’t Need You, has been surreal. I made this album from such a personal place, so knowing it resonates with others makes it all feel worth it.
Your sound on Blush Hour is very polished yet intimate. What was your approach in creating it?
I wanted it to feel like a world of its own—soft, immersive, and honest. I’m drawn to atmospheric production and subtle melodies, but I also wanted each song to tell a clear story. Working with Shannon and Xanier on the collaborations added new layers to that, which I love.
Are there any songs that hold a special meaning for you?
They all do in different ways, but Don’t Need You was a turning point for me. It’s about reclaiming your sense of self after losing it in someone else. It was freeing to write, and I think a lot of people have connected with that feeling. You’re already working on new music.
Can you share anything about your next project?
Yes! I’m exploring French jazz influences in my next work, which is exciting because it’s different from Blush Hour but still feels very me. I want to experiment more with my vocals and bring new textures into my sound. You’ll also be performing soon.
How do you feel about translating your music to a live setting?
I can’t wait. I love the idea of creating an experience for people beyond just listening to the songs. I want the performances to feel as immersive as the album itself.
With Blush Hour making an impact and new music on the horizon, Édaj is proving that she’s an artist to watch—one who knows exactly where she’s headed next.
