Milap, the UK’s leading Indian Arts & Culture company, is bringing the world of Indian music and dance to the masses during lockdown with a host of online interactive activities.
Following a weekend of back-to-back live performances, workshops and discussions online to celebrate International Dance Day in April, the Liverpool-based organisation continues to provide high quality content via its online channels, featuring everything from full-length concerts from their ‘Music for the Mind and Soul’ archives, to their brand new ‘Try It Out’ dance sessions.
The brand new ‘Try It Out’ workshops have been designed especially by Milap to give the public an opportunity to try out an Indian dance or music style from the comfort of their own home.
Suitable for any age and with no previous experience or training required, participants are able to explore a vast variety of dance forms from Bhangra to Garba (Gujurati Folk Dance) and even Ghazal singing.
In the current series of ‘Try it Out’ sessions, Milap have teamed up with world dance company Movema to explore a variety of different North Indian Folk dance styles. Led by Associate Artist, Sheetal Maru, the six weeks of online sessions will offer a fun workout and help towards wellbeing and sense of community.
There’s also still time to catch their introduction to Bhangra dancing, led by Vijay Mehay of acclaimed group Nachda Sansaar.
Milap’s hugely popular concert series, ‘Music For The Mind & Soul’ also makes the digital jump online, with full length concerts featuring the likes of ‘Confluence’ – a beautiful showcase of Bollywood songs fused with Indian classical music.
There’s also 45 minutes of sublime music premiering on the Milap Facebook Page this week, designed to give viewers a sense of calm, relaxation and inspiration, featuring Prateek Shrivastava on the Sarod and Soumen Sarkar on the Tabla.
All Milap’s interactive sessions and concerts are available for free via their Facebook Page – facebook.com/milapfest – and don’t worry if you miss a live broadcast or premiere, all the videos are kept in the archives to watch at your own leisure.
Be sure to follow Milap on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook for all their latest news.
